A tour group and guide seem like great ways to visit a new country. Indeed, it is a wonderful idea for those who are new to a country. But consumers will find that going with a group enables much less freedom as a result as compared to a self catered trip. Knowing which one is more beneficial to one’s situation is key to making the most of a vacation.
Self catering, as the name would imply, is for those who aren’t afraid to travel alone or with a friend or family members. Self catering is usually only recommended by travel agents if the traveler knows the area or has visited once before. In the case of not knowing the area, the consumer might want to take a guided tour the first time, and visit later as a self catered trip.
Freedom is a characteristic of a vacation that should be had in order to enjoy one’s self fully. After all, one can enjoy themselves much more if they can do the things they want, and not everything they don’t. Sadly guided tours will give little choices in what the traveler can accomplish, and there will likely be things that the traveler will miss out on because of it.
If a family is bringing kids along, it’s usually a better idea to get the self catered holiday. Kids are notorious for wanting to do certain things- and only certain things. Kids love the beach, arcades, and boardwalks, and of course- great food! But when traveling on someone else’s schedule, fulfilling the entertainment of a child can be a tough action indeed.
Most tour groups will not allow any kind of alcohol or smoking since some others on the tour guide may find it offensive. Even when done in moderation, both acts may annoy others, and it is likewise banned from most trips. Yet on a self catered holiday, one can enjoy both as much as they want without getting in trouble with the tour guide or with other travelers.
In the end, a self catered trip is a lot more work when considering a lot of planning has to be done beforehand. But in exchange for the freedom, it is usually well worth it. Just be sure that the area is well scouted out, all arrangements are made, and a travel agency is consulted. Be sure to tell the agency it is a self catered trip, so they can offer accordingly good advice.
In Conclusion
Self catering can be a little frightening at first, but in most cases, it’s just another way to enjoy a great vacation. Sometimes the thrill is even greater when one doesn’t know exactly where they are or what their surroundings are like. Either way, there is much more freedom to be had!
