You may be one of hundreds of people who have considered starting a diet but have become so confused about what diet is right for you or if it’s even safe. Hopefully, the following information will ease your mind and help you to a successful diet.
One of the first misconceptions is that people think that if you reduce as many calories, from your diet, as you possibly can, that you can lose a great deal of weight quickly. This is very harmful for your body because you need calories for energy; your body, in fact, begins to starve. The most effective and safe way to lose weight is to do it gradually. If your prom or wedding is in May, start your diet at least five months before.
A very harmful untruth about diets says that you must eat one type of food, such as soup, mean, hot dogs, or even ice cream. The diet prohibits you from eating anything else except that food. This is very unhealthy as your body needs other foods to be healthy. Eating only one type of food deprives your body of essential vitamins it needs. You may lose weight, but you could also do serious damage to your body as well.
You may have also heard that you can never stray from your diet. If you do, you’ll need to exercise for hours to make up for it. This isn’t true. It’s okay to have that fudge brownie once in awhile. You only need to adjust your calorie intake for the day. There’s really no need to exercise for hours just to compensate for one little treat.
Don’t believe what you’ve heard when they say you cannot eat before you go to bed. Dieting healthy means you are watching your intake of calories and you are exercising along with it. Eating before bed will not change that, unless it’s 5,000 calories; then you might have a problem.
Another diet misconception is that you can’t eat between meals; on the contrary; you should have sensible snacks between meals. It’s important to keep down those hunger pangs with a healthy snack because if you don’t, you might over-eat during your meal and take in over the calories you are allotted.
Some diets will tell you never to consume any dairy products because they are too high in fat. Your body needs the vitamins you get from milk, cheese, and other dairy products. Some statistics show that adding dairy to your diet may help improve your weight loss; just make sure you use low fat products if you wish to include them into your diet.
You shouldn’t believe everything you see or read concerning diets; the best way to get the results you desire is to eat healthy and exercise.
