Everyone who has a computer has gone through the phase of error messages appearing on the screen. You feel your heart bouncing fast and a nervous attack when you see the fatal or illegal error messages appearing on the screen. Who gave the name of these error messages as “fatal” or illegal”? Does it imply that someone is going to die? Is the computer going to be dead because you turned it on? Some people get so afraid when they see these error messages on the screen, that all they do is turn the computer off and summon a service person. More than 20,000 error messages are known to be appearing on the screen but it is impossible to know their significance and meaning.

What significance does the error messages like “Cannot delete tmp 164_5.tmp: not enough free disc space” hold? This has no significance at all. Sometimes, the computer insists you on deleting some files, and won’t let you delete the files when you do. What a strange situation!

There is a message “An illegal operation has been performed by the program which will now shut down. Contact the program provider, if it continues”. I don’t even remember the exact number of time I have encountered this message. This one message tests the nerves of the user. You may be wondering if the people call the program provider in such a case. The answer is a simple “NO”. The program vendors are not helpful in these cases. Letting the vendor know about the error message is just the same as letting Santa know about your wish list.

What can be done?

Most of these problematic messages could be dealt with by rebooting the computer or by turning it off and then turning it on. So, unless you are software engineer or have a good knowledge of computer, then you don’t need to bother about these messages.

Although you need not worry about every error message, there are a few you should be wary of, and some that you know you need to get help with.

Windows Protection Error- This error appears when there is a VxD or a virtual device driver problem. The best thing you can do is boot your computer in safe mode and uninstall and then reinstall the device driver that has the problem. This error message can also be caused by other problems like, memory, or a registry error. In case of a registry error, you can run a registry utilities program, which can be found on the internet to clean up your registry.

KERNAL32.DLL - the KERNAL32 has to face a lot of problems and there is no end solution to it. It handles a large number of processes. Having a problem with the file KERNAL32 means that there are corrupt system files, problem in microprocessor, bad software working, expired drivers, virus present in the system, or insufficient space in the hard disc. It could imply many things getting a KERNAL32 message. Evens some sort of error in the hardware may also cause this message to display. Insufficient power supply, extra heated microprocessor, is also responsible for the appearance of KERNAL32. You may use a windows registry cleaner in this case which may fix the problem.

Blue Screen Errors - These are major computer errors and usually the computer doesn’t bother sending you a cute error message here. You just get this big blue screen which is telling you to take immediate action. In some cases the blue screen will say “Wait for program or press ctl Alt Delete to reboot. In most cases you are just better off rebooting, because most of the time you cant get your program back. Once you reboot your computer should be fine. Sometimes the blue screen only informs you that you have unplugged some device and need to plug it back in. If Windows doesn’t come back, then you need to reboot. The only time you ever need to worry about the blue screen is when it keeps recurring and won’t go away, and then you probably have a hardware problem and should call a repair service provider.

In the End

In most cases the computer will repair the error itself by rebooting. There are exceptions where registry errors or program errors have occurred and in these cases a registry cleaner should do the trick. Unfortunately some computer error messages require a more thorough revision, and if the registry cleaner did not work then you might want to call in a professional to see what the problem is.
