With the latest dog food scares, many consumers have become very wary about the type of food they buy. Many are skeptical about buying from lesser known brands, while others are opting to buy more natural or organic dog foods, or even making thier own homemade dog food.
To ensure the safety of their products, and verify the nutritional quality of their foods, many manufacturers (and many countries’ laws require) place a nutritional facts label on their packaging that puts the general nutritional content of their food in a conspicuous place in order to ensure that comparisons can be made between brands and that foods are healthy and hearty for a dog.
An issue with the nutritional guide is that it has no real litmus test designating the values given to healthy ingredients and practices. As such, a Dog Food Report can not accurately provide a score for food producers ingredients and pracitces and as a result the consumer bears the burden of trying to find the best food for thier dog.
With this kind of limited oversight in the wake of the most recent dog food poisonings many governments have begun seeking ways to regulate dog food manufacturing. Many have decided upon coming up with a report that would list the quality of the ingredients of the food allowing the consumer to see what was in their pet’s food along with some verification that the ingredients are fresh. In this case the cost of peace of mind would be welcomed.
One way a Dog Food Report could help is that it would allow the average consumer to have a look at what exactly is being fed to their pet. The report would contain a quality report of the ingredients of the food, allowing the consumer to see what was in their pet’s food along with some assurance that the ingredients are fresh.
Such a report could give updated quality assurance checks done by an outside, un-biased company. If a manufacturer had an issue an updated report would be given, and the consumers could have up-to-date information on thier dog food brand before it makes it to Fido’s bowl.
A third benefit to such a report would be the transparency that all dog food makers would have, even the natural organic dog food maker, as the information would be widely available for all consumers to read and compare brands to one another. Brands would have some incentive to make their products better, and good products would have some positive publicity.
A Dog Food Report is necessary to provide safer, higher quality dog foods in this day and age. If manufacturers were required to do more oversight, the quality of the dog foods sold worldwide would improve drastically, and pet owners and thier pets would all reap the benefits.
