Companies and educational institutions ultimately depend on similar factors for their success; namely, the performance of employees and students. In order to enhance the performance of students within an institution, education professionals are constantly implementing new ideas to improve process.
Learning aids, new teaching techniques, etc are just some of the devices used. As the devices and processes are introduced the student learning is increased which in turn raises the institutions reputation. The use of Six Sigma can help with the process improvement within education.

The approach lies in looking at the customer first, which magnifies defects in a system which will be more expensive to the educational institution. The culture within the institution is crucial in the success of Six Sigma. Often the culture must be changed to reap the rewards of a successful deployment of the Six Sigma methodology.
Quality management has no better tool than Six Sigma. In the educational arena, the teachers are the employees and parents serve as the customers. To use Six Sigma properly the problem must be identified first. Then, project details can be laid out in order to reduce this problem or to make the problem go away.
Six Sigma requires the enthusiastic participation of all individuals at all levels, starting at the senior level. Innovation and creativity are encouraged through the basic Six Sigma principles, and a module developed to establish good communication between teachers and students. The application of Six Sigma within an educational setting will mean that everyone will see positive changes in teaching methods, along with a positive result. With proper education, qualitative learning is achieved and desired goals reached.
