Turning 16: A Birthday Like No Other

16th birthdays are momentous events that are important in every girl’s life. Also known as sweet sixteen, this means that she is no longer a child but not quite an adult either. This transition stage between the two is one of the best in every girl’s life which makes celebrating it a very good idea.

1th birthdays aren’t celebrated to such an extent by all though. Men don’t celebrate their 16th birthdays, preferring to reserve their celebrations for the 21st. And not all cultures consider the 16th year to be the coming of age year for girls. Others prefer to celebrate 18th birthdays in a similar fashion.

People used to celebrate 16th birthdays as a sign that their daughters were now of marrying age, as well as grown up. In older times, women were encouraged to find husbands when they reached 16. Women who were 27 years old and above who had not married were deemed spinsters for life.

Nowadays, the custom of having to find husbands at 16 has largely been abandoned. Now 16th birthdays are celebrated for different reasons. It stands as a marker for a girl’s exit from childhood and foray into adulthood.

If you’re turning 16, you don’t need to make your celebration a grand ball or an extravagant party, unless you want to. There are other ways of celebrating this milestone in your life.

The possibilities are endless! From an intimate dinner with close friends and relatives to parties, you can think of countless ways to hold your 16th birthday celebration. There are countless of party themes from tropical island to movie themes.

Another option is celebrating your birthday in the bowling alley or skating rink with some friends. It would also be memorable if your birthday bash were a slumber party.

Clean fun is important while celebrating your 16th birthday. You can get busted if you do things you’re not supposed to, as drinking alcohol and other things aren’t legal until you’re either 18 or 21. We don’t want the police screwing with the fun so keep it clean and keep it happy!
