A lot of money is being invested today in traveling; cruise lines, resort package deals, and air travel can easily run into thousands of dollars and if you have invested some of that money on a trip and can risk losing it all. It is surprising therefore how so many people still refuse to take out travel insurance as they feel it is unnecessary.
If you think about all the possible things that can happen to either stop you from traveling or from having a pleasant vacation, the small financial outlay, usually less than ten percent of the vacation cost, it is well worth it to have some peace of mind. You could fall ill just before you are due to travel, or someone in your family but this could just as easily happen when you are on vacation, but whatever the situation you will be out of pocket.
You could also find yourself in some mishap that leaves you far from home with no money and unable to keep the reservation you already made with no refunds available and this is when it makes sense to purchase travel insurance. Most travel insurance will cover trip cancellation, trip interruption or delays, medical, dental, emergency medical transportation, lost luggage, accidental death, financial default of airlines, and cruise lines.
There are occasions where a situation prevents us from taking our holidays right at the last minute where normally all money paid to that point can be forfeit but travel insurance can prevent this happening. A good travel insurance plan should provide trip cancellation coverage for the traveler’s vacation investment and the insurance company should reimburse the traveler for all pre-paid, nonrefundable expenses.
This type of cover also allows for the vacation being interrupted for any reason and will refund the traveler for payments he has made towards the trip. Unfortunately, terrorism seem to be something we have to live with and many travel insurance companies are coming to terms with this but they are not all the same in this regard so you must look for one that will cover for both domestic and foreign incidents.
Although it has been mentioned that the cost of travel insurance is usually under 10 percent, this can vary and the biggest factor to this s the age of the traveler. Always a fear with people is whether the person they have booked the vacation with will still be operating when they travel but if you have arranged your travel insurance within 15 days of paying the deposit you should be able to claim back all costs if they cease trading.
Credit cards, auto insurance and often home owner’s insurance plans may cover aspects of your travel so a comprehensive travel insurance plan may not be required. Duplications in insurance coverage will merely mean you are paying for something twice so it is worth your while checking other policies before you finally commit.
Be sure to check the fine print for hidden limitations on these existing policies and after researching your current polices, it may seem you are already covered on the surface, but the fine print could limit certain conditions, circumstances, situations or locations.
