We encourage people to do extensive comparison shopping because they can actually find quotes that are dirt cheap. However, there are things that make a quote a good deal. If they are missing, then you’ve bought trash no matter how low an amount you paid. Let’s look at some of them…

1. What’s the company’s rating? Unless you do NOT ever intend to make a claim even if you need it, you’ll need an insurer that will treat your claims promptly. Some companies that offer rates that are too low sometimes have unimaginable hurdles you must cross before you can get your compensation.

Are their policyholders complaining? How quickly do they resolve complaints filed? Don’t buy from an insurer who does NOT show enough commitment to it’s insurers. Check with BBB (Better Business Bureau) and your state’s department of insurance.

And don’t forget to verify that you’re NOT buying from a fly-by-night insurance company. Verify with your state’s department of insurance to ensure they are licensed to sell auto insurance in your state.

2. Does your super-low quote come with super-high deductibles? An insurer could give very low quotes and then place very high deductibles on the policy. This is neither good nor bad. It all depends on what your auto insurance needs are. Just make sure you get what serves your best interest.

3. There is a given number of years after which an insurer clears your record of traffic violations or accidents. If you’re NOT the “greatest” of drivers, you may want to ensure your insurer does this after fewer years.

If you’re satisfied with these things then you have a great deal. Some insurers offer very low quotes to specific profiles. The reasons for this are beyond the focus of this article.

Also, do your best to read through your policy details and have all your questions answered before you buy.

Now that you know what to look for in a quote, why NOT make yours the lowest quote that also gives adequate coverage? Get and compare quotes from a wide range of insurers and you could save yourself hundreds in premium dollars.
